All-Star Championship Wrestling
3/3 Green Bay, WI
at the Watering Hole
It was a great night to be a wrestling fan in Wisconsin as dozens of wrestlers from around the midwest made their way to Green Bay to be a part of
ACW's Titletown Takeover III! Lots of new faces were introduced to the faithful ACW crowd, many of them taking part in the gigantic 2-ring, 40-man battle royal, one of two big main events for the evening! Highlights of the show are as follows...
The opening contest saw "Straight Edge" Eric Hammers take on Derrick St. Holmes, Esq., and although the two seemed evenly matched, the odds were tipped in St. Holmes' favor after a shot to Eric's head with his Tome of Knowledge
Next, Kujo took on "Pimp Daddy" Rob Norwood for a shot at the ACW Heavyweight Championship which would take place that very night. The furious battle ended when Kujo used a foreign object on the Pimp Daddy and pinned him for the three count. The fun wasn't over just yet though, as Kujo and his manager Angelo Stefano grabbed The Lovely Kendra and got her all ready to receive Stefano's infamous "Pitty City," but in a shocking move, Stefano grabbed Kendra and kissed her instead! Sympathy cards may be sent to Kendra c/o ACW.
Then it was triple-J versus triple-R when JoJo Justice squared off against Ruff Ryder Rashaan. This back-and- forth matchup ended when Rashaan polished off JoJo with a big moonsault.
The diabolical Sam Hayne took on the monstrous Big Daddy Loker in a battle that could very well have gone either way, until some familiar music hit and who should stride out from behind the entryway but Dino Bambino, who has not been seen since Hayne put him through a flaming table back in December. Bambino did not interfere physically, but his presence alone was enough to distract Hayne, who left the ring in pursuit of Bambino. Loker then went after Hayne as well and both men were counted out. Apparently the feud between Dino and Hayne is STILL not over.
Next up was Ground Zero, the interview segment hosted by Time Bomb Tom, who called out the assorted thugs from MPW who rushed the ring and put the boots to Hillbilly Hills back at Winter Warfare last month. Several of MPW's finest hit the ring and were accompanied by Adrian Lynch, who explained that he went
to Minnesota and brought back these friends of his to show us all what wrestling was all about. MPW also had a few demands: not only were they booked in the big battle royal, but they also wanted a tag team match and a shot at the ACW Television Championship! No sooner did the words leave Shifty's nice head than the ACW TV Champ himself, Kamikaze Ken, hit the ring, causing the MPW goons to scatter like roaches. Ken proceeded to count ballchez after ballchez amongst the MPW crew, but accepted the challenge for the TV strap.
Immediately following was the tag match, pitting MPW's Shifty and Sheriff Johnny Emerald against Red Lightning and Ryan Rogue. The match was a great display of wrestling action but turned ugly when Red Lightning refused to tag his partner Rogue, and Rogue was caught and pinned by Shifty, putting a mark in the win column for the MPW team.
The ACW Heavyweight Championship match that Kujo earned earlier by defeating Rob Norwood was next, and ACW Champ Hillbilly Hills came out to defend the gold. Kujo employed his usual stalling tactics at the beginning of the match, claiming that Hills stunk too badly for him to wrestle, but he sucked it up and went ahead anyways. The two men clashed in a hell of a battle, but in the end, the big ol' farm boy prevailed with a Hillbillybomb and the one-two-three, retaining the championship.
It was then time for the first main event of the night, the big battle royal, which took up two rings nd pit 40 wrestlers against each other. The contest was actually two simultaneous 20-man royals, and the winners of the two rings would go on to face each other later in the evening to determine the #1 contender to the ACW Heavyweight Championship. Chaos ensued from the opening bell, as fists, feet and bodies flew everywhere throughout the Watering Hole. In the end, "God's Gift to Women" Kevin Krueger finished one royal first by simultaneously eliminating Rob Norwood and Big Daddy Loker, while the other ring was dominated by Mitch Paradise, who won by dumping Sheriff Johnny Emerald over the top. Paradise was ready to take on Krueger right then and there, but he'd have to wait just a bit to get his hands on him.
Sgt. Medallion took on Romeo Valentino next, and the brawl ended when the sergeant managed to utilize his nightstick to put Valentino out.
Chi-Town Thug, formerly seen in ACW as "Overkill," came out and put down the Overkill character and promised to show us what he was really capable of. Mason Diggs, accompanied by Shauna, had other plans as he took his high-flying skills to work against the size and brutality of the Thug. Diggs managed to eke out a win with his Gravedigger scissorkick.
The ACW Television Championship was on the line as champion Kamikaze Ken came out to defend against MPW's chosen challenger, Helmut von Strauss. Von Strauss put forth an impressive effort with some aerial maneuvers, but in the end it was the Kenton Bomb that sealed the deal and kept the gold around Kamikaze's waist.
Adrian Lynch, accompanied by MPW's Shifty and Black Stallion took on the returning Dino Bambino next, and despite interference from his MPW cronies, Lynch ended up looking skyward as the referee counted three and raised Bambino's hand in victory. But it didn't take long or Lynch to get back on his feet and the MPW crew to come back out and beat down Bambino, after which one of the most shocking events ever to happen in an ACW ring occurred. The MPW thugs held down Bambino, and Lynch produced a pair of scissors and began cutting off Dino's long hair. Before too long, it became painfully apparent that Lynch had only taken hair off the top and sides, leaving Bambino with a mullet. As Lynch squealed with glee over Bambino's newfound mulletude, Sam Hayne hit the ring and Lynch et al all bailed out. After a puzzling gesture from Hayne, Bambino left the ring thoroughly dejected about his humiliation and his new Kentucky Waterfall hairstyle...sympathy cards may also be sent to Dino c/o ACW, same as Kendra's.
Finally it was time for the two winners of the monster battle royal to square off and find out who would get a shot at the ACW Heavyweight Championship at the next ACW television taping (currently scheduled for April 7, back at the Watering Hole). Kevin Krueger and Mitch Paradise hit the ring and tore into each other from the word go. Paradise seemed to have the match sewn up and the ACW championship in his sights when Krueger's manager Tommy Rox brought out Sgt. Medallion and managed to whack Paradise with a foreign object, enabling Krueger to pin Paradise and secure his chance at the ACW title.
The final contest of the evening saw four tag teams compete at the same time for the ACW Tag Team Championship. At Winter Warfare, ACW Tag Champs The Hammers Brothers were split up when Brad Hammers turned on Eric Hammers in the middle of a 6-man tag match. Eric was allowed to choose a new tag partner after defeating Brad in a singles match later that night, and he would bring this new partner into tonight's 4-team match. After the challenging teams of Rockin' Randy & "Superstar" Mike Mercury, Hillbilly Hills & Ruff Ryder Rashaan, and the GQ Centerfolds tonight consisting of Matt Longtime and Angelo Stefano) began the match in chaos, "Straight Edge" Eric Hammers barrelled towards the ring with his new chosen partner, Kamikaze Ken! As most of the combatants tumbled outside the ring and were laid out by a somersault dive off the Watering Hole's crow's nest by Hammers, Rockin' Randy managed to pin Ruff Ryder Rashaan in the ring and win the ACW Tag Team Championships for himself and his partner Mike Mercury.
All in all it was a spectacular night of wrestling action and a rare opportunity to see so many midwest wrestlers in one place. And don't forget, you can catch it all on upcoming weeks of ACW Television!
French Lake Wrestling Association
3/7 Big Lake, MN
at Hero´s Sports Complex, 8 p.m.
The FLWA returned to active duty with a bang on Wednesday night at Hero's Sports Bar in Big Lake. The place was a great venue for wrestling. About 250 people attended the card.
Match one
Matt Anderson (Burns) pinned Primetime Lumpkin with McCoy Counterfeit. The show opened with Lumpkin telling the crowd to shut up and watch former Chippendale dancer (oh, not really!) McCoy Counterfeit dance. He unbuttoned his shirt, which didn't win him any friends in the crowd. This was a pretty good opener as they didn't Finish came when Counterfeit was on the ring apron and Anderson gave Primetime a slingshot into the manager and rolled Lumpkin up for the pin.
Match 2
Mitch Paradise pinned Pit Boss with High Roller Mago. Mago did plenty of interfering for his match as this was a pretty good match with big-man action. Finish came when Paradise reversed an Irish whip and sent Pit Boss into Mago and then grabbed his opponent, gave him a chokeslam and pinned him. The match was a bit short, but good.
Match 3
Chi-Town Thug with Cynnamon pinned Johnny Parks with Crystal. This was my first time seeing Live Wire Johnny Parks, who has wrestled for the last couple years in Australia after training in Minnesota. Crystal, who is a female wrestler, made her debut as a manager. Parks was a respectable wrestler with good fire and these two worked pretty well together as they had the crowd into the match. After several minutes, Cynnamon interfered in the match by choking Parks on the rope, but Crystal chased Cynnamon around the ring but didn't catch her. Thug did a real nice overhead suplex. Parks hit a diving head butt off the top for 2. Then they wrestlers hit each other with a double clothesline. Referee Gary DeRusha went over and argued with Crystal as Cynnamon handed Thug a set up knuckles and she hit Parks with a low blow for good measure. Then Thug hit Parks with the foreign object and pinned Parks. Good match.
Match four
Kenny Jay with Lacey pinned Helmut Von Strauss with Ashley Xavier. A few minutes in, Kenny Jay caught Helmut's foot as he tried the superkick and responded with a left hook. After some USA chants, Helmut took the action to the Sodbuster until Kenny knocked him down and puts the boots to him. As Kenny was giving Helmut chops in the corner, Ashley pulled Kenny's feet out and Helmut choked him. Lacey chased Ashley around the ring. Moments later, Kenny caught Helmut with a slam and pinned him. The women battled briefly before being pulled apart.
Match five
Dr. Darin Davis pinned Scotty Zappa
Early on, Zappa tried to play mind games with the doctor. Late in the match, Davis gave Zappa a drop toe hold, put on the rubber glove for the exam and pulled down Zappa's strap on his wrestling outfit. Zappa recovered to raise his leg and hit Davis in the jewels. Seconds later, as Zappa went for a slam, Davis rolled him up in a small package for the victory.
Intermission
At the start of the intermission, Magnus Maximus came out and took the mic. He called out the commissioner, Terry Fox. He asked why he wasn't in the main event with Jerry Lynn and Lenny Lane. Fox ended up getting punched when he said there was going to be a three-way dance. Lynn came out and ripped on Maximus and said that if Lenny agreed, it would be a three-way. Lane came out and told of a survey that said 80 percent of all males in Big Lake are gay. Then said as he looked at the ladies of Big Lake, he would be gay, too. Then he said that the 20 percent of non-gay men in Big Lake were married to their sister. Lenny said he could understand why Jerry would want a three-way dance because he wouldn't want to lose to a job guy and then said Maximus wants to be a god from Rome, but lives behind the Frankies in Crystal. He then agreed to the three-way dance.
Match six
Horace the Psychopath pinned JB Trask.
At one point in Minnesota during the 1990s, this was the hottest feud on the circuit. Early on, they went to the floor where Horace spit beer, threw pop and hit JB with a pizza box. Actually, not any pizza box, but the pizza box of doc D'X! Finish came when Trask climbed to the top rope, only to be grabbed back Horace, who hurled him across the ring and pinned him.
Match seven
Whakked (Dan Jesser and Hater) with Mago pinned Cruel & Unusual (Big Daddy Hoofer and Ian Xavier) to win the FLWA tag team championship. Lots of wild brawling in the ring as both teams were heels, although Whakked seemed to be slightly favored. Finish of the match came when C&U suplexed Mago into the ring and hit him with a double clothesline. Jesser and Hater gave C&U low blows, neckbreakers and pinned C&U to win the FLWA tag team straps.
Match eight
Lenny Lane won a three-way dance over Magnus Maximus and Jerry Lynn to win the FLWA Heavyweight Title. Before the match, Lane's manager Mortimer Plumtree cut a good promo. This was the best three-way dance I've seen on the independent circuit, but then again, these are three very talented wrestlers. This was all action as expected and the timing of the guys was very good. Late in the match, Lane hit Lynn with a front face slam and was about to pin him as the referee counted 2.999, but it was broke up by Maximus. Lane hit Maximus with the memory lane and pinned him to win the title.
Overall: Very entertaining card with a lot of people driving up from the Twin Cities to Big Lake to see the action.
