Steel Domain Wrestling
7/21 West St. Paul, MN
at the West St. Paul Armory, 7:30 p.m.
In front of 175 people, Steel Domain Wrestling returned after a few months' absence from the West St. Paul Armory. It was a hot night in Minnesota with temperatures in the 90s and the building was hot.

Match one: Major Mayhem pinned Terry Fox.
Ring announcer Travis Sharpe told us this was a dark match. Mayhem was making his SDW debut. He pinned Fox, who had a nice chant of "Terry" during the match, with a rolling DDT.

Match two: Cujo pinned Kevin Krueger.
These two are ACW regulars who have also competed in Midwest Pro Wrestling rings in Minnesota. They were also making their SDW debut. This was a respectable debut match as the crowd was into two guys most had never seen before. Krueger was particularly strong with facial expressions. Cujo provided some interesting offense including a superplex off the top rope and gave Krueger a Kryptonite Krunch leading to the pin.

Match 3: Flexappeal (Tony DeNucci & Travis Lee) beat Rapid Fire Rory Fox and Rikki Noga to keep the SDW tag titles.
The match opened with an intense exchange of chops by DeNucci and Fox. There was lots of intense action throughout this match. Fox gave DeNucci an exploder. DeNucci slammed Fox on the floor and delivered a stiff chair shot. Later, DeNucci hit Fox with some stiff right hands and a drop kick to a sitting Fox in the corner. Eventually, Noga got the hot tag. They tried a double team move that ended up in a mess with Fox landing on DeNucci. Seconds later, DeNucci hit a splash off the top rope and pinned Fox. This is one I want to see on TV.

Match 4: Ace Steel pinned B.J. Whitmore.
Whitmore had a strong reputation coming in and did nothing to disappoint. Steel was his usual outstanding self. Great action throughout. Highlights included a dive through the second rope by Whitmore, followed shortly with Steel returning the favor. Steel's dive was at an incredibly high speed. Ace hit a drop kick to the side of BJ's head while he was sitting that was incredible. He also hit a drop kick to BJ, who was sitting on the second rope turnbuckle. They also hit an outstanding suplex as Steel was on the tope rope and BJ gave him a gut wrench suplex and held on for a two count. Finish came when Steel did a springboard swinging DDT and pinned Whitmore. Good stuff.

They announced an intermission but Underwear Model Eric Priest came out and cut a promo, telling he was the new AWA World Heavyweight Champ. He is the champion of Dale Gagner's AWA Superstars of Wrestling group. There was a good "you suck" chant and Priest said SDW was a joke. Danny Dominion, the SDW champ, and valet Adara James came out. Dominion said he thought the AWA died 15 years ago. He then asked who Priest beat for the belt. Priest answered Turbo. Dominion got a look on his face like someone farted. He then said, so you didn't beat Jerry Lawler, Curt Hennig, Larry Zbyszko, Buck ZumHofe, etc. There was then a small Rock and Roll chant. Funny stuff in a weird way. Priest ended up hitting James with a kendo stick and Dominion chased him off and set up the main event as Dominion became the face, at least for the night.

Match 5: Nick Mondo pinned Horace the Psychopath.
Mondo came out with the CZW Ironman Title. There was a good group of Mondo fans at the show, who obviously follow his CZW exploits. This was a fast-paced match from the start but the lack of a heel in the match caused fans to just cheer spots. Mondo did several high spots including hitting a topo con halo and a swingboard legdrop. They brawled outside with Mondo hitting a spin kick and Horace answered by spitting pop on Mondo. Horace gave Mondo a chairshot outside. Finish came when Mondo hit a springboard, back somersault leg drop on Horace, who was positioned across the top rope and pinned him. Short, but exciting.

Match six: AWA champ Eric Priest beat SDW champ Danny Dominion (with Adara James) by DQ.
Dominion pulled out all the stops in his game. He hit a somersault over the rope onto Priest. He tried for a huracanrana out of the corner, but ended up turning it into a DDT. Priest gave Dominion a powerbomb off the top. At the 10-minute mark, they did a series of three false finishes and Priest reversed things with a clothesline. Priest hit Dominion with a spear. The finish came when referee Terry Fox was accidentally hit by a missile dropkick by Priest. Dominion gave Priest an Ace crusher off the top rope and then counted to 10 while covering Priest but there was no referee. Priest's buddy, Tony DeNucci, ran in and clotheslined Dominion. Priest grabbed the kendo stick, but James gave Priest a low blow and a huracanrana and hit him with the stick. Dominion covered Priest and Fox started a slow three count. Just was he was getting to three, he saw the kendo stick and DQ'd Dominion. After the match, Dominion started a "bullsh*t" chant and begged for 5 more minutes. Priest came out and asked the crowd if it would like to see 5 more minutes. The crowd said they did, but Priest walked about. Dominion got the crowd to chant S-D-W to close the show.

TV Report

NAWF Television
NAWF Pro Wrestling All-Stars tv 07-21-2001
This week's episode began with Matt Longtime walking into the arena. He was approached by a "fan" who wanted his autograph. It was really hard to hear what they were saying, but I think the fan stated that he lost his jumper cables, and needed a way to get to the show. Longtime then made him carry his luggage.

Derrick St. Holmes, Esquire vs. The Screamer
This match was pretty one-sided, and The Screamer did not last a long time. The Screamer was a guy in the Mr. Ghostface outfit from the Scream movies, complete with long robe. The referee for the match was Shauna Doyle, who commentator Ricky Yamamoto stated was the first female referee in Upper Midwest wrestling. I guess Yamamoto has not seen Ladyhawk or Lacey. Derrick St. Holmes worked over the leg of The Screamer for the majority of the match. The only offense that the Screamer had was a flying clothesline and a spinwheel kick. He did end up hooking on a sleeper hold on St. Holmes, which Rockin' Randy, who was doing commentary stated, "Is that Greg Gagne under the mask." Pretty funny. The end came when St. Holmes reversed the sleeper hold into a drop toe hold into the St. Holmes stretch, a variation of the STF for the tap.

Tweek Phoenix vs. Mason Diggs
Mason was the heel in this match, and he did a pretty good job getting the crowd against him. Tweek was really annoying with his mannerisms in the ring, bouncing around like Buff Bagwell. Tweek had control of the match earlier, but Mason took over after ducking a clothesline and then hitting a hangman's neckbreaker. The tide turned again when Diggs missed a swantan bomb from the top rope. Tweek then hit a nice dropkick. He went for a powerbomb or pile driver, but Mason reversed it into a hot shot on the top rope, which commentator Ricky Yamamoto called "the Eddie Gilbert move" until Rockin' Randy informed him of the proper name. Diggs then put away Tweek with the gravedigger. For those that don't know, the gravedigger is when the victim is on all fours, and Diggs jumps off their back, and comes down on their head with a scissors kick. Diggs slipped a little bit on the way up, but he was able to still make it look good.

Iraqi Assassin Ashram vs. "Buzzsaw" Brad Hunter
This match was from the Carthage College show in Kenosha. Hunter held the advantage early, using his speed with arm drags and hip tosses. Ashram rolled out of the ring, and was greeted by his tag team partner Poonjab. Hunter then did a pescado to the outside of the ring, and took out both of the Iraqis. Ashram dominated the majority of the match. Hunter was able to take over the advantage after reversing a side slam into a swinging headscissors. Hunter then dropped Ashram to the mat with the Michinoku Driver II. However, when Hunter went to the top rope and the referee's back was turned, Ashram rolled out of the ring, and Poonjab took his place in the ring. Hunter then missed a top rope frog splash, and Poonjab dropped Hunter to the mat with a gourdbuster for the pin.

Cage match: Adrian Lynch vs. Tony Leone
Yep, the same Tony Leone you remember getting squashed in the AWA was featured in this match. This match was just highlites from the cage match in Kenosha. The end came when Adrian Lynch was not able to use the guitar that was slid in the ring by Rockin' Randy, and Leone cracked Lynch over the head with the guitar for the win. Rockin' Randy put the bad mouth to Lynch on commentary for blowing the match, setting up their feud for the television viewers. That's it for this week. -Tracy Thom
