IWA MID-SOUTH NEWS FOR 07/09/01

--IAN & ABDULLAH DEFEAT MMP'S IN MAIN EVENT!!
--CHIP FAIRWAY MAKES STEVE CORINO TAP OUT?!?
--CHRIS HERO SURVIVES IN 30 MINUTE SIX MAN TAG!!

IWA Mid-South Hardcore Wrestling returned to the House of Hardcore in the township of Charlestown, IN this past Saturday night, July 7th. The card was titled "Extreme Heaven 2001," and if you weren't there, you missed a spectacular night of action. Those who couldn't be there live, the tape of this particular show is one you will want to pick up. A big thank you to all of the dedicated IWA fans who came out in such warm weather to support the promotion.

Here are your results from Saturday night's card...

1. MARK WOLF (w/ Summer) defeated RICHARD X with a slop drop off a chair. Post-match, CHUCKIE SMOOTH ran in and attacked Summer, giving her his modified pedigree. Summer had to be carried out and sustained an injured neck from the maneuver.

2. CORPORAL ROBINSON defeated ROLLIN HARD with the Boot Camp (cobra clutch/russian legsweep).

3. "The Superheros" CHRIS HERO & BJ WHITMER & CM PUNK (w/ Dave Prazak & Jim Fannin & Breeze) defeated the team of "Classic" COLT CABANA & TARIK THE GREAT & THE SUICIDE KID in a six man elimination style tag team match. During the early minutes of the contest, the competitors performed a series of dives to the floor that had the crowd standing on their feet in awe. Suicide Kid hit a 180 Crazy sault, Tarik the Great executed a tope con hilo, BJ Whitmer hit a suicide dive through the ropes, followed by a CM Punk dive over the top to the floor, Chris Hero amazingly executed a running over the top corkscrew plancha, and Colt Cabana capped it off with an Asai moonsault. The first man eliminated was CM Punk, when Cabana placed Punk on his shoulders, and then Kid delivered a blockbuster off the top rope. Eliminated second was Colt Cabana, after Hero did a moonsault off the top rope followed by a Whitmer frog splash. Tarik the Great was eliminated 3rd, after taking a superbomb from Hero and Whitmer, while Prazak and Fannin held on to Kid's legs to prevent him from breaking up the pin. BJ Whitmer was eliminated following a double Suicide Solution on himself and Hero. The final elimination came at right around the 30 minute mark, as Chris Hero delivered a top rope choke bomb for the three count. Following the match, the fans gave the wrestlers a round of applause as a show of appreciation for putting on a phenomenal show despite the temperature. Definitely one of the most memorable matches of the past year in IWA.

4. "The Rugby Thug" TRENT BAKER (w/ Dave Prazak & Jim Fannin) retained the IWA Mid-South World Heavwyeight Title against THE BLUE MEANIE (w/ Jasmin St. Clair). Just after Meanie hit a sit out powerbomb on Baker, Prazak pulled referee JON HOWARD out of the ring before he could make a three count. This led to Jasmin chasing Prazak around and into the ring, where he was met with a stunner courtesy of St. Clair. Meanie then hit the Meaniesault off the top rope, but Fannin climbed up on the ring apron distracting Howard again from making a count. From the back door of the building, TODD MORTON hit the ring and nailed the Meanie and placed Rugby on top for the victory. Todd got on the mic and proclaimed that he was there to protect Thug's title, and to support the Superheros. Jasmin teased aligning herself with Rugby and Morton but wound up giving both of them low blows. As Morton and Thug double teamed Meanie post-match, IAN ROTTEN hit the ring to make the save, and announced that at the next IWA super card, "From Hardcore Hell And Back" on 8/11, Rugby will defend his title against former WWF perfomer ROAD DOGG. Ian also announced that on that show, Morton will face "JC ICE" JAMIE DUNDEE.

5. CHIP FAIRWAY defeated NWA World Heavyweight Champion "The King of Old School" STEVE CORINO via submission when referee BRENT BLADES called for the bell and announced Corino had tapped out to the Sand Trap (Texas cloverleaf). Early in the bout, Corino backed Chip into the corner and chopped him, but Fairway laughed in response and delivered several of his own trademark brutal chops. Corino gained the advantage and dominated most of the match, until Chip slammed Corino off the top rope and got him in the Sand Trap. Chip held on to the hold for quite a while, as Corino picked his hand up and slapped the mat attempting to reach the ropes. When Corino slapped the mat a second time trying to move toward the ropes, the ref called for the bell and declared Fairway the winner. Corino got on the mic and completely flipped out, telling everyone that he didn't tap out, screamed "that wasn't the finish," and the match should not be over. Ian Rotten responded to Corino on the mic by informing him that on 8/11's "From Hardcore Hell And Back" card, he would have to defend the NWA Title against Fairway. Corino said he would defend the belt against Chip on 8/11, and then go work for OVW. Corino proceeded to leave the building, as Ian promised everyone that history would repeat itself on 8/11 in the same fashion as when Shane Douglas and Paul Heyman screwed the NWA in 1994.

6. Shoot fighter ADRIAN SERRANO (w/ Jim Fannin) made BULL PAIN submit to a choke hold in a submissions match.

7. THE NECRO BUTCHER defeated HIDO in a Falls Count Anywhere/Fans Bring The Weapons Match. Necro scored the pinfall after pouring lighter fluid on the leg of his pants, setting it on fire, and hitting a legdrop.

8. IAN ROTTEN & ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER (w/ Honest John) defeated "The MMP's" MAD MAN PONDO & "Mean" MITCH PAGE (w/ Short Dog) in a Texas Tornado style tag team match after Rotten hit a double arm DDT on Pondo, followed by an elbowdrop from Abdullah. This was Abby's first appearance for the IWA Mid-South, and needless to say this match was a wild brawl. Abdullah's trademark fork was his weapon of choice, along with a coat hanger, beer bottle, and various weapons that the IWA fans handed to the combatants. After the bout, referee Brent Blades, Corporal Robinson, Hido, and Rollin Hard all were forked by Abdullah.

Tapes of "Extreme Heaven 2001" are already available on IWA home video. If you would like to order a copy, E-mail JFannin73@aol.com for further information.

NWA Florida Card Change & Update
An Open Letter From the NWA President

To all our fans,

Due to personal reasons, NWA Wildside competitor Air Paris will not be participating in Tuesday night’s "Super Junior Open" at the Fort Homer W. Hesterly Armory, 504 N. Howard Avenue. Taking Paris’ place will be local competitor Rod Steel.

With the line-up change, the first round pairings have been changed as well. Instead of Steel facing NWA Georgia junior heavyweight champion Jimmy Rave, he will meet IPW-Hardcore’s Jet Jaguar, while Rave squares off with Reckless Youth.

With the change, the first round pairings now have: Reckless Youth vs. Jimmy Rave; Rod Steel vs. Jet Jaguar; Scoot Andrews vs. Pepe Prado; Christopher Daniels vs. Tony Kozina; Lex Lovett vs. Jason Rumble; and Mike Sullivan vs. Billy Fives.

Also scheduled for our July 10th lineup will be: NWA World Tag Team Champions the Heavenly Bodies with Jimmy Del Rey, NWA Florida Heavyweight Champion "Iceman" Buck Q and his manager Bill Alfonso, IPW Tag Team Champions the Shane Twins with Ron Niemi, and NWA Florida Tag Team Champions B. Brian Blair and "the Indestructible" Cyborg, as they surrender their titles due to their respective injuries.

All in all, Tuesday night should be one heck of a night for wrestling and hope to see you at the Armory.

Howard T. Brody
President
National Wrestling Alliance
